An unsung hero - Harold Stoute!

Tansi/Good Day Readers:

Sometimes we as Canadians are a little too modest given how talented we are - Harold Stoute is yet another example.

This Summer CBC Radio carried a 10-week series, The Late Show, narrated by Canadian - Newfoundland and Labrador icon Gordon Pinsent: http://www.cbc.ca/radiosummer/thelateshow

Mr. Pinsent is a 40-year veteran of theatre, film, television, and radio - actor/playwright/author/director well known to audiences across Canada and in the United States.

The series aired in Winnipeg beginning at 11:00 Sundays mornings - unfortunately today was the last episode detailing the life of Montreal born Harold Stoute who grew up in Toronto's tough inter-city Alexander Park neighbourhood.

Although far from perfect (Harold had seen his share of fights), as a friend you could always count on him to watch your back should you find yourself in trouble. Loving children he was devastated to learn his wife was unable to conceive but through it all re-invented himself by going to as many youth sporting matches as he could while always ready to play with neighbourhood children. His wife tells the story of how it was not unusual for young ones to come to their door to ask if Harold "could come out to play." Particularly touching was the interwiew with a 10-year old boy who described himself as, "Harold's playmate." Sadly, Mr. Stoute died recently at age 44 from complications (aneurysm) following a serious operation.

Needless to say, the neighbourhood and his many little friends were shattered upon learing the news. We think people like Harold should be held up as examples for all Canadians to see the difference one person can make in the lives of those around them both young and old. To this end, we're sending a copy of the posting to Mr. Pinsent to make the following request. Hopefully, he can help us.

Sincerely,

Clare L. Pieuk
